A policeman guarding precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines in Eastern Visayas was killed in an attack staged by four unidentified armed men before dawn Saturday.

Reports reaching Philippine National Region 8  Headquarters indicated the attack happened  in Barangay Calingatngan in Borongan town between 3:49 and 4:00 a.m.

PNP Region 8 Chief Superintendent Elmer Soria said at least four armed men opened fire at a PNP-BPAT security team assigned to guard the designated clustered voting precinct in Calingatngan.

The victim, PO1 Agerico  Afable, died on the spot due to gunshot wounds, Soria said.

Barangay Tanod Glecerio Gema was wounded and another Barngay Tanod, Ronnie Basana was unharmed by pretending to be dead, Soria added.

The gunmen fled with Afable’s pistol and the police uniform of PO1 Cesar Yu.  All PCOS machines inside the room were left untouched.
