MEXICO, Philippines – A police officer and another man were shot dead by three unidentified men early Tuesday morning in Mexico town, Pampanga province.

Residents of Brgy. Lagundi said gunshots rang out around 9:00 a.m. near an apartment area in the village.

Taking a closer look, neighbors found the lifeless bodies of police officer Redentor Almuete, a 34-year-old resident of Sto. Tomas, and Jose Luis Abellana, 39.

A security guard, Jonie Robosa, was injured in the incident.

Police investigators ruled out robbery as motive for the crime as the gunmen did not take the victims’ belongings and money amounting to more than P47,000.

“Paghihiganti siguro. Inaalam pa natin kung ano nga dahilan,” Mexico police chief Supt. Ferdinand Perez aid. “Tatlo ang suspek natin dyan.”

Abellana’s relatives said they do not know if the victim had enemies. “Gusto kong malaman sa gumawa nito kung bakit niya ginawa,” said the victim’s sister, Laura Galang.

Police found a National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) ID card in Abellana’s possession.

However, the NBI Region 3 office said the ID is fake. “Hindi natin alam kung saan (niya) ginagamit ang mga pekeng ID na ito,” Perez said.

Police are currently investigating the case. – with a report from Mia Reyes, ABS-CBN News Pampanga
