A policeman assigned to the Philippine National Police’s Anti-Kidnapping Group is in hot water after he allegedly poked his firearm at a motorist following a traffic spat in Quezon City Wednesday morning.

The policeman, initially identified as PO2 Joven Janairo, also faces sanctions for violating the Commission on Elections’ gun ban as he was not in uniform at the time, radio dzBB’s Cecilia Villarosa reported.

Initial investigation showed the incident occurred at the Cubao-bound part of the EDSA-Kamuning flyover at about 8:30 a.m.

Janairo was riding on his motorcycle when he lost his balance and hit another motorcycle and a taxi.

He allegedly drew his firearm and poked it at the rider of the other motorcycle.

But the report also said Janairo denied the allegations, saying he was even hit by the other motorcycle rider.

However, the report quoted the Quezon City Police District as saying Janairo may face charges of violating the Comelec gun ban, which is in effect until June 12, since he was not in uniform at the time.

Under the Comelec gun ban, only law enforcers on duty and in uniform are allowed to carry firearms outside their homes. —KG, GMA News
