The much-publicized Comelec gun ban failed to stop a determined gunman who shot and killed the owner-executive of a construction company at San Bernardino Bridge in Guiwan, this cityTuesday night.

Engr. Joselito Yanga y Sotto, 42, of Barangay Divisoria, owner and head of SJY Construction, was gunned down by one of two motorcycle-riding gunmen. He sustained a gunshot wound in the head and was declared dead on arrival at the Western Mindanao Medical Center.

Yanga, who was said to be a relative of former City Police Director Sr. Supt. Mario Yanga, was driving his motorcycle on his way home to Divisoria when he was shot shortly before 11 p.m.

Witnesses told investigators that two men riding tandem on a motorcycle chased him and the backrider drew a .45 caliber pistol and shot him at the San Bernardino bridge.

The gunmen sped straight ahead upon seing Yanga with his motorcycle crashed on the pavement.

People in the area rushed him to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

The Tetuan police are looking into business rivalry and another possible personal angle as the motive behind the killing.

Yanga’s firm is undertaking some construction projects in the city. He is the vice-president of the Los Contratistas.

City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin Deocampo disclosed that his men are working 24 hours to get the killers solve the case.
