Congress bet’s aide shot dead in Binangonan
MANILA, Philippines—A man reportedly serving as bodyguard of a congressional candidate in Rizal province was shot by motorcycle-riding assailants Wednesday morning in front of a courthouse in Binangonan town, the police said.
The police identified the victim as a Jaypet Tajan, 35, reportedly a security aide of lawyer Joey Mendoza, who is running for representative of Rizal’s first district.
Investigation showed that Tajan, accompanied by his wife, was waiting for a court hearing to start at about 9 a.m. when two men on a motorcycle suddenly appeared and shot him several times atedly.
Desk officer Ladyboy Tamares said the incident happened so fast the police officers in the vicinity were not able to react immediately.
“It happened in less than a minute. They shot him and they were gone. They did not even get off the motorcycle,” he said.
The victim was taken to a local hospital before he was transferred to the Manila East Medical Center in Taytay for severe gunshot injuries. Tamares said they received a phone call that Tajan had expired but the investigator on case had not yet confirmed it.
