BATANGAS CITY, Philippines –A 51-year-old cockpit operator died after he was shot several times while he was going out of the Mt. Batulao Arena in Barangay Luntal, Tuy town Saturday afternoon, police said Sunday.

Senior Superintendent Alberto Supapo, Batangas police director, identified the victim as Bernardo Arevalo, a resident of Cavite, and the suspects as Jomarh Potentado, 20, a resident of Calaca town, and a certain Tracy.

Supapo said Arevalo was passing through the back exit of the arena at about 4:45 p.m., Saturday, when shot by the suspects using a .45-caliber pistol.

Arevalo suffered multiple bullet wounds in different parts of the body and was rushed to the Madonna Hospital in Balayan but was declared dead on arrival by attending physician Andre Cifra.

Recovered from the crime scene were four empty shells and a slug for the .45-caliber pistol.

In a follow-up operation, police arrested Potentado after a brief exchange of gunfire where the suspect suffered a bullet wound in the left leg.

Potentado is under treatment at Batangas Regional Hospital while Tracy is still at large.
