AN ACCOUNTANCY student of Cagayan de Oro College (COC) in Carmen was shot to death while another was wounded late dawn Tuesday at Purok 5, Zone 10, Upper Carmen, this city.
Police identified the fatality as Severino Gida, 20, a resident of Zone 10, Upper Carmen, who sustained gunshot wound on his head that resulted to his instantaneous death.
The victim, a third year student, was riding with his friend, Jay Pagara, 19, in a single motorcycle when the incident happened, according to police investigation.
Police Inspector Nelsedaca Villanueva, chief of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco), eyed carnapping as the motive of the suspects who immediately fled after the incident using Pagara’s motorcycle.
It was learned that the motorcycle, the latest model, was just bought by Pagara’s family on May 13.
According to police, Pagara was asked by his mother to bring the motorcycle to a gasoline station for refueling. En route to the gasoline station, Pagara saw Gida and asked him to accompany him.
After refueling at a gas station in Masterson Avenue, two men on board an XRM motorcycle tailed them and ordered them to stop before reaching Pagara’s house.
Police said the suspects told Pagara and Gida to get off from the motorcycle but the two refused to heed, prompting the suspects to shot them.
The suspects first shot Gida who was hit on his head, neck and leg. After the incident, the suspects fled on board Pagara’s motorcycle.
Villanueva said they recovered from the crime scene four empty shells of a still undetermined gun.
Pagara is now in stable condition at the JR Borja Memorial Hospital while Gida’s body lies at the Bollozos Funeral Parlor.
Authorities at Police Station 4 (PS4) in Carmen are also doing a separate investigation on the case.
