COTABATO CITY, Philippines — A Chinese-Filipino businessman in Maguindanao was abducted by armed men at about 5 p.m. on Sunday at his residence in Datu Piang municipality, members of his family reported to the police.
Rodolfo Chio, 70, was snatched at gunpoint and was forced into a green van, which sped away immediately, said the victim’s niece, Zeaharazade Lu-Datumanong.
Chio is sick, according to his eldest son, Henny.
Residents said a green van also figured in a robbery of a pawnshop owned by a Chinese-Filipino businessman in Shariff Aguak town last month.
The armed robbers were clad in fatigue uniforms and wore t-shirts printed with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) acronym.
