MANILA, Philippines – The mayor of Viga, Catanduanes survived an ambush Monday, police said. 

Sketchy reports from Bicol police spokesman Superintendent Renato Bataller revealed that Mayor Abelardo Abundo, who is seeking re-election, was ambushed by unidentified gunmen as he was campaigning in Barangay Soboc. 

Bataller said Abundo and his companions were on board a black van en route to Barangay Buenavista when they were attacked. 

The bullet which came from a caliber .45 pistol went through the windshield and ricocheted on the dashboard. 

Abundo and his companions were unhurt. 

No other details were immediately available. 

Abundo is seeking re-election under the Lakas-CMD party.
