A suspected carnapper was killed while his two cohorts were arrested during a hot pursuit operation by police operatives under the supervision of City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin De Ocampo in Upper Calarian last Monday night.

De Ocampo identified those arrested as Rhadrin Kalayakan y Haliluddin and Alraden Taup y Salani, both of Kapok, Sinunuc. Their companion,a certain Boy, was discovered dead inside a stolen Tamaraw FX.

Investigation disclosed that around 7:10 a.m. Monday, Ernie Cabili y Agan of San Jose Gusu appeared at the central police station and reported that his Tamaraw FX with plate number UUT 430 was discovered missing after he parked it along RT Lim Boulevard near Pilar College.

Acting on the report, De Ocampo directed his men to flash alarm to all police and military units to intercept and apprehend the stolen vehicle and arrest the carnappers.

Around 8:15 p.m., the police received an information that the stolen vehicle was seen traveling west. At this point, De Ocampo deployed more policemen in the area.

The city director said that around 8:45 p.m., the stolen Tamaraw FX with three persons aboard passed by the Task Force Zamboanga checkpoint in Upper Calarian and was heading towards city proper at high speed.

A soldier said the vehicle almost hit the sentinel and rammed the road barricade prompting him to open fire on the FX. The driver lost control of the steering wheel and bumped a Zamcelco post.

Policemen of the Sinunuc Police Station led by Chief Insp. Ibrahim Jambiran who were also part of the pursuing team chased Kalayakan and Taup after they ran away from the FX and collared them later.

The man driving the stolen vehicle was later identified as a certain Boy. He was dead in the driver seat with a bullet wound in the head.

De Ocampo said his men recovered from the possession of the suspects a snub-nose .38 cal. revolver with three rounds of ammunition in the cylinder.

De Ocampo added that the suspects were taken to the City Police Office together with the recovered FX.
