Candidate for San Fernando, La Union, councilor shot dead

MANILA, Philippines – A candidate for councilor in San Fernando City, La Union was shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunman Sunday night, police said.
The victim was identified as Danilo Nisperos, 59, a resident of Purok 7, Barangay Bangcusay, San Fernando City.
Superintendent Jovencio Badua, spokesman of Ilocos police, said the victim was shot by the suspect at the same barangay shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday.
Nisperos was rushed to the Bethany Hospital but died while undergoing treatment.
Recovered from the crime scene were five spent shells and five slugs from a still unknown firearm.
Police have launched manhunt operations for the suspect.
Records from the Philippine National Police (PNP) showed that from January 13 to February 17, 11 people have been killed in 23 election-related violent incidents.
