The shooting happened 22 days after the ambush-slaying of another candidate for councilor in Sta. Maria town.
Senior Superintendent Eduardo Dopale, Ilocos Sur police director, said Cecilio Tolentino, 65, an independent candidate for councilor in Magsingal, was having a conversation with his neighbor when the suspects arrived and shot him several times in front of his residence in Barangay San Vicente, Magsingal, at 4:40 p.m. Thursday.
The victim, a retired provincial manager of the National Food Authority (NFA), suffered several bullet wounds in the abdomen.
