Candelaria, Quezon – A village chief was gunned down by two men while walking home in Barangay Sta. Catalina Norte, this town, the other night, police said.

Superintendent Francisco Ebreo, Candelaria chief of police, said two local residents have been arrested over the attack on Calixto Pita Clanor, 44, who succumbed to bullet wounds in the head and thigh around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Ebreo said suspect Alladin de Villa Cornejo, of Barangay Sta. Catalina Sur, surrendered to police hours later while his alleged cohort, Dennis Pateña, 32, was nabbed in a follow-up operation by a team led by Senior Police Officer 3 Norbel Sotto before dawn yesterday.

The suspects were positively identified by Clanor’s wife and son as the assailants who took the village chief’s firearm and sped off on a motorcycle. The motive in the killing is still under investigation.
