ZAMBOANGA CITY – The head campaign coordinator of re-electionist Mayor Roderick Furigay was shot dead by four unidentified assailants late Sunday afternoon.

Police said the victim, Jun Edal Cuevas, who is also a kagawad (councilor) of Barangay Ulame in Lamitan City was on his way home when the suspects shot him several times before escaping to Barangay Balagtasan.

Cuevas died after being shot twice in the head.

Police operatives recovered 2 empty shells of 45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.

Authorities believe the incident is politically motivated. They said the victim was a big help in the mayor’s re-election campaign, which resulted in victory.
