A member of the Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) was killed and another was wounded when government troops belonging to the Army’s 72nd Infantry Battalion (IB) again engaged members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Mawab, Compostela Valley Province before dawn yesterday.

Lieutenant Colonel Norman Zuniega, commanding officer of the 72nd IB, said the encounter occurred at around 2:40 a.m. on June 3 in Barangay Salvacion, Mawab.

Zuniega refused to divulge the names of the slain and wounded CAFGU members.

In an interview aired over dxDC-RMN Davao, Zuniega said his troops were responding to a call from a citizen in Barangay Salvacion informing them about the presence of armed men in their barangay.
