MANILA, Philippines – An alleged policeman killed a cab driver and wounded 2 others in a shooting spree along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) near Times Street in Quezon City, before dawn Thursday.
Police identified the slain cab driver as Roberto Cuyugan. The injured drivers were Rodel Regundola and Jessie Forio, who both sustained wound in the legs.
Jay Aquino, one of the taxi drivers waiting for passengers on EDSA-Times, said the shooter was wearing a black jacket and a black hat.
Aquino said the shooter first approached Cuyugan’s taxi and fired at him without any apparent reasons. He said Cuyugan sustained 5 gunshot wounds in the body.
After Cuyugan, the shooter approached 2 more taxis and injured Regundola and Forio.
Aquino said that after the shooting spree, the man just casually walked away and hailed a passenger bus.
While police were investigating the crime scene, another taxi driver approached ABS-CBN News team and claimed that his fellow driver told him that the man was seen 4 days ago in the area.
The driver, Ramon Valenzuela, said that the man is supposedly a policeman who lost his firearm and handcuffs in a cab.
He said that the man reportedly asked other taxi drivers if they were able to find his gun and handcuffs, but he was just ignored.
“Sumakay daw siya sa taxi naiwan ang baril at posas. Ayun, hindi na nahanap,” he said.
Policemen from the Quezon City police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit have refused to reveal more details, saying that the investigation was still ongoing. — Report from Jacque Manabat, ABS-CBN News
