MANILA, Philippines – A brother of a prosecution witness in the murder trial of Datu Unsay Mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr. was shot dead in Cotabato City, police said today.
Police identified the victim as Mohamadisa Simpal Sangki, 51, businessman, of Ilang-Ilang Street, Rosary Heights 7, Cotabato City.
The victim, the younger brother of Ampatuan town mayor Zacaria Sangki, suffered a stab wound and a gunshot wound on the body.
Initial report showed that the victim was on board a red motorcycle when he was flagged down by one of the suspects around 5:30 p.m. yesterday on Sinsuat corner SK Pendatun Avenue, Poblacion 5.
After a brief talk, the suspect stabbed the victim on the chest while another, identified by a witness as Kenny Osmeña, shot Sangki on the back.
The suspects fled on a black motorcycle right after the incident.
The older Sangki had earlier testified before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court identifying the Datu Unsay mayor as the one responsible for the carnage of 57 people in Maguindanao province last Nov. 23.
Police are still looking into the motive of the killing.
