ABUNDANT Marketing located in Narra Extention, Hervias 1, Bacolod City, was attacked by about five suspects who introduced themselves to be New People’s Army (NPA) members in another broad daylight robbery incident last Saturday.
Helen Uy, owner of Abundant Marketing, said the suspects arrived at her store on board a tricycle around 8 a.m. of Saturday. The suspects, who were carrying short firearms, entered the corn and soybean store and introduced themselves to be customers.

Upon sensing that only few people were around the store, the suspects ordered the store personnel to give them all the firearms in the store, stressing they are only after the firearms as they are members of the NPA.
Uy said the store personnel told the suspects that they have no firearms. The suspects then cut all the telephone connections and the CCTV wires and proceeded to the owner’s residence at the second floor of the building to look for firearms.
The suspects hogtied Uy, her brother Harry Uy, househelp Quennie Tipulo, family driver Peter Arcilla and customer Pablito Umambong, who was unlucky enough to be buying corn at the store when the suspects attacked.
The suspects used telephone wires to hogtie the victims.
Uy said the suspects took away P18,000 cash, the CPU and monitor of the CCTV, six cellular phones and jewelry all worth P100,000.
The suspects also used as getaway vehicle Harry Uy’s Crosswind car that was parked in front of the store. They latter abandoned the SUV in a vacant lot in the city’s Shopping Center.
Police recovered the vehicle around 3:30 p.m. last Saturday.
Uy said the suspects took away all the car keys and even attempted to bring him but later decided not to take him as hostage anymore.
He said the suspects spoke in Cebuano and Tagalog with Ilonggo intonations.
Abundant Marketing opens store at 7:30 a.m. The incident happened just about 30 minutes after they opened that day.
Bacolod City Police Director Edgardo Ordaniel, who went to the crime scene, said they cannot yet determine if the suspects are connected with the Ozamiz Gang that attacked recently F and C Pawnshop at downtown Bacolod.
He said they will also look into the possibility that the incident could be a diversionary tactic of the NPA, after one of the communist group’s leaders was apprehended in Ilog town Friday last week.
