MANILA, Philippines – A newly-elected barangay chairman was shot dead in Magsingal town, Ilocos Sur province on Thursday morning.

Chief Superintendent Orlando Mabutas, Ilocos regional police director, identified the slain official as Denmar Bueno, chairman of Barangay Resurreccion in San Juan town.

Mabutas said Bueno was shot dead by 2 motorcycle-riding gunmen in Barangay San Ramon, Magsingal town around 6:40 a.m..

The victim died from his wounds while undergoing treatment at the Magsingal District Hospital. — Report from Noel Alamar, radio dzMM
