TENSION gripped students and faculty members following the discovery of three boxes suspected to contain bombs inside the administrative building of the University of Southern Mindanao in Poblacion,  Kabacan, North Cotabato yesterday morning.

Captain Antonio Bulao, Civil Military Operations Officer of the Philippine Army’s 602nd Infantry Brigade, said the boxes were found by a janitor around 9:15 a.m.. One of the boxes was found outside the campus’ library and the other two were discovered inside the Student’s Affairs Office and the Faculty Office.

The incident caused panic among students and professors prompting the management to suspend classes.

Police and military bomb experts with K-9 dogs rushed to the university and found three boxes containing bottled water with wires attached to the bottles.

After hours of inspecting the whole building, the authorities declared the area safe.

USM vice president for administration and finance Dr. Francisco Garcia advised students and campus employees to be always vigilant.

Authorities are still investigating the incident.
