THREE explosions rocked Lamitan City and Cavite City Thursday. No one was reported killed or injured.
Two of the blasts rocked Lamitan City in Basilan Thursday night, officials said yesterday.
An unidentified suspect bombed the house of a vice mayor running for mayor in Lamitan City.
Basilan police director Senior Supt. Mario Dapilloza said the incident occurred at around 9 p.m. at the house of Lamitan City Vice Mayor Arleigh Esima on Aguinaldo St., Bgy. Maganda, Lamitan City.
The blast damaged the vehicle owned by Esima that was parked at the garage.
After a few minutes, another explosion occurred in front of a chapel in Bgy. Colonia.
Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered at the scene shrapnels from improvised explosive device. Philippine National Police spokesman Chief Supt. Generoso R. Cerbo Jr. said police forces in Mindanao remained on full alert to thwart any security threats.
In Maguindanao, an explosion also shook the house of mayoral bet Akmad Ampatuan, suspect in Maguindanao massacre, Thursday night, in Shariff Aguak.
Shariff Aguak police head Chief Insp. Marlo Silvestre said the incident occurred at around 11 p.m. in the house of former Datu Salibo Mayor Akmad Ampatuan in Poblacion, Shariff Aguak.
Silvestre said at least 20 armed men strafed the house with M203 and M79 grenade launcher and M-16 rifles.
Record showed that Akmad is one of the suspects in the gruesome Maguindanao massacre that killed 57 persons, including 32 mediamen on November 23, 2009.
It was learned that Ampatuan made his way to run as mayor of the town where his supporters were campaigning for him.
Police are eyeing vendetta from supporters of Maguindanao massacre victims as one of the motives of the incident.
In Cavite, an improvised bomb wrecked a Service Utility Vehicle (SUV) in Cavite City Thursday morning.
The improvised bomb, which was planted under a Ford Everest van (TIS 140), wrecked a vehicle in Bgy. 41, Caridad, Cavite City.
Police said the van owned by Romulos Santiago Protasio, 36, single, businessman, of 402, Garcia St., was slightly damaged. No one was hurt in the explosion which occurred at 10:30 a.m. in front of the residence of Protasio.
Probers said a family problem could have motivated the planting of the bomb because the couple’s marriage had just been annuled but Protasio is facing a complaint before the business licensing department at Cavite City Hall.
