KIDAPAWAN CITY— Unidentified armed men blasted the National Grid Corporation in the Philippines Tower 141 in Cotabato, causing power supply disruptions to vast areas in central Mindanao.
In a post on her Facebook account, Cotabato’s 1st congressional district board member Shirlyn Macasarte-Villanueva said the incident took place in Sitio Bitol, Barangay Kayaga in Kabacan town at about 7:40 p.m. Thursday.
The explosion damaged the NGCP tower and caused massive power fluctuations in Cotabato and Bukidnon provinces, and Cotabato City.
Also affected by the blast was the 138 KV lines from Mount Apo Geothermal Power plant. But
Kidapawan City power was restored three hours after the incident.
However, sources at the Cotabato Electric Cooperative (Cotelco) said some towns had remained veiled in darkness until 11 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighter (BIFF) has denied responsibility for the incident.
BIFF spokesperson Abu Missry Mama said BIFF members do not to use improvised explosive device in any of their attacks.
Post-blast investigations are on-going at the blast site.
