Unidentified gunmen shot dead an official of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in General Santos City Sunday morning.

Dante Dimerin, chief quarantine officer of BFAR Region 12 Office, died while being taken to hospital, Police Regional Office 12 director Chief Supt. Felicisimo Khu, Jr. said.

The victim was about to park his pick-up at the corner of Champaca and Zapote Streets in Barangay Dadiangas West, General Santos City, when two motorcycle-riding men armed with .45 pistols shot him. 

The gunmen also shot a security guard who tried to help, but missed him.

Khu said the motive and identities of the suspects are still being investigated.
