MANILA, Philippines – A barangay tanod was killed yesterday after he shot policemen who tried to arrest him for shooting a businessman in Batangas, an official said.
Senior Superintendent Alberto Supapo, Batangas provincial police director, identified the suspect as Rolando Toledo, 42, who earlier fired his shotgun at businessman Sonny Balazon, 48, of Purok 2, Brgy. Concepcion, Batangas City.
Initial report disclosed that some policemen went to the house of Toledo around 6:30 p.m. yesterday to arrest the suspect regarding Balazon’s complaint.
But instead of surrendering, Toledo fired his 12-gauge shotgun at one of the arresting officers but missed, prompting authorities to retaliate.
Police also arrested Toledo’s superior Job Corteza, 52, who was caught with a cal. 45 pistol during the incident.
Authorities will file criminal charges against Corteza before the court. – By Dennis Carcamo (Philstar News Service, www.philstar.com)
