A PROVINCIAL Commissioner of the Regional Reconciliation and Unification Council of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao was shot dead by a lone gunman inside a cafeteria in Cotobato City.

The fatality was identified as Assib Ibrahim, a resident of Bgy. Simuay, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao.

Reports reaching Camp Crame showed the incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. inside Arshed Cafeteria on Sinsuat Ave., Poblacion 6, Cotabato City.

Initial investigation showed the victim was waiting for the food he ordered when the suspect arrived and for still unknown reason, shot the victim with a caliber .45 pistol.

Ibrahim died on the spot due to a gunshot wound in the head.

Police, meanwhile, managed to arrest the suspect in a follow-up operation. He was identified as Castro Esmael.

Confiscated from Esmael was a caliber .45 pistol believed as the same firearm used in the shooting.

Probers, meanwhile, have yet to establish the suspect’s motive in shooting said ARMM official or if he had been hired by someone else who had an ax to grind against Ibrahim.   Zaida delos Reyes-Palanca
