ANOTHER major shipment of shabu was intercepted by government agents at the Zamboanga International Airport Thursday, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency chair Undersecretary Arturo G. Cacdac Jr. said yesterday.

The interception of a parcel containing some 600 grams of shabu worth P3 million was made by members of the Office for Transportation Security with the support of PDEA and Philippine National Police operatives.

Cacdac said the illegal drugs were found concealed in a Tawi-Tawi-bound package containing eight plastic bundles wrapped with electrical tape and flip-flop sandals.

He said members of the Police Center for Aviation Security 9, the Zamboanga International Airport Police Station, the City’s Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force and the PDEA Regional Office 9 headed by Director Jeffrey Bangsa intercepted the drugs  at the airport’s initial screening area.

The official said the package of shabu arrived at the airport via Philippine Airlines flight number 2P993 last  Thursday and was scheduled to be shipped to Tawi-Tawi the next day.

Cacdac said the package was sent by a certain Gloria Fernandez of Dagupan, Pangasinan, using a local courier service to be delivered to one of its branches in Bongao, Tawi-tawi.

Two weeks ago, 18 kilos of shabu worth P90 million contained inside some “balikbayan” boxes were intercepted at the same airport during an operation which also resulted in the arrest of two big-time drug couriers.
