Police Regional Office 3 director Chief Supt. Raul D. Petrasanta identified the victim as Efren dela Cruz, 59, married, of 3312 Narra St., Doña Belen Subd., Bgy. Sto. Cristo.

Petrasanta said the victim died on the spot from bullet wounds in the nape. He said Dela Cruz was about to board his Nissan pick-up truck (CGR-333) when the suspect appeared from behind and shot him twice at point blank.

Senior Supt. Eden Ugale, Angeles City police director, said the victim had just gotten out of Angeles City Cockpit Arena after attending a sponsored 3-cock derby.

A SOCO team from Angeles City Crime Laboratory Office led by Chief Insp. Ricardo Laming recovered two spent shells and a deformed slug for cal. .45 pistol.

Petrasanta condemned the killing and ordered the Angeles police to dig deeper into the case and uncover those behind the senseless murder.

Witnesses told police investigators that the unidentified suspect immediately fled after the shooting, bringing with him the gun he used in shooting the victim.

Dela Cruz for the nth time was elected as barangay chairman of Sta. Cristo. He was president of the Association of Captain Barangays in Angeles City during the term of Mayor Francis “Blueboy” Nepomuceno six years ago.

For the past years, the victim had been very vocal in his crusade against the proliferation of illegal drugs in the city until his assassination last Sunday.
