MAGUINDANAO – A grenade explosion rocked the house of the incumbent mayor of Shariff Aguak town in Maguindanao on Tuesday evening, leaving at least one injured.

An unidentified man onboard a motorcycle lobbed the grenade at the gate of reelectionist mayor Bai Zahara Ampatuan’s house in Barangay Poblacion at 6:39 p.m.

The explosion wounded the mayor’s son, identified as Gardon Tamondok. The victim was rushed to the Maguindanao Provincial Hospital after sustaining multiple shrapnel wounds.

In a phone interview with ABS-CBN News Central Mindanao, the mayor said the bombing could be politically motivated. She, however, said she has no known enemy.

Mayor Bai Zahara Ampatuan is running against incumbent Maguindanao board member Datu Sarip Ampatuan, brother of former Maguindanao Governor Datu Andal Ampatuan Sr.
