KIDAPAWAN CITY – A personal aide of a defeated mayoral candidate in M’lang town in North Cotabato was shot dead Monday but investigators are still determining if the killing was politically motivated.

Police Inspector Antonio Bunda, chief of M’lang police, identified the victim as Raul Gumboc Seniel, 58, who worked for M’lang mayoralty candidate Tadeo Andres under the Lakas-Kampi-CMD party as a personal aide

Seniel’s body was found in a rice field in Barangay Malayan in M’lang.

The victim was on his way home to Malayan when a still unidentified suspect shot him on the chest, according to initial investigation.

The crime site is only 100 meters away from Seniel’s home, yet none of his neighbors heard the gunshot, Bunda said.

The victim was living alone in his place since his wife and children were already residing at Panay Island in Iloilo province.
