Agusan Sur Comelec municipal officer shot

BUTUAN CITY , Philippines  –  Unidentified gunmen shot Loreto, Agusan del Sur municipal Comelec officer Jay Salinas in front of his house at around 10:45 p.m. Friday night in Poblacion Loreto, the Philippine Information Agency regional director’s report here said yesterday.

The PIA report quoted Comelec Caraga Regional Director Francisco Pobe’s official report that after the Comelec officer received the compact flash cards’ delivery in front of his residence, gunmen shot him to the surprise of some of his household members.

Due to the lack of vehicle to transport Salinas to the hospital it took sometime before he was brought to D.O.P Memorial Hospital in Patin-ay, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur aboard a speed boat.

Hospital authorities as of press time said they are still observing the condition of the wounded Comelec officer.

Meanwhile, PPCRV monitoring center here at Fr. Saturnino Urios University claimed NPA rebels harassed the delivery of PCOS machines in hinterland Agusan del Sur town in San Luis yesterday.

Grace Marlesa, head of the monitoring and operations unit of the PPCRV Diocese of Butuan which has its nerve center at Fr. Saturnino Urios University Audio Visual Room 2 here claimed that based on the report from their PPCRV volunteers in the area NPA rebels were firing their guns in San Luis, Agusan del Sur while PCOS machines were about to be delivered.

“Our PPCRV volunteers got nervous of the incident, however, the escorting cops immediately covered and conducted hot pursuit operations against the armed men suspected to be NPA rebels operating in the area,” Marlesa told The STAR.
