Five fishermen were massacred by gunmen off Eleven Islands, this city last Friday night.

A police report identified the fatalities as Raymundo Makabenta alias Maestro, Joselito Mendoza, Lyngel Abni, a certain Pario and Danny.

Their companion identified as Jeffrey Mendoza survived the sea attack.

The report disclosed that the six fishermen were on fishing trip aboard a pumpboat named MB Queensa around 6 p.m when another boat with four gunmen aboard surfaced.  Three of the gunmen boarded their boat and ordered them to jump into the water.

Terrified, the five men jumped into the sea, while Jeffrey coiled himself at the corner of the boat.  While the five were floating in the water, the gunmen shot them repeatedly and not contented, one of the three pulled a bolo and hacked them one by one.  They died instantly, while Jeffrey was not spotted by the attackers in their boat. Jeffrey waited until the attackers left then drove their boat to Barangay Sangali to report the incident to the police.

City Police Director Sr. Supt. De Ocampo ordered his men to run after the killers, while investigation is still going on to determine the identities of the attackers and what made them kill the fishermen.
