MANILA, Philippines – Three soldiers were killed while another was wounded after a group of gunmen, believed to be communist rebels, ambushed government troops and militiamen in Davao at noon today, a military official said.
Capt. Emmanuel Garcia of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division said the identities of the victims, belonging to the 69th Infantry Battalion, were temporarily withheld until their families are notified.
Initial report disclosed that members of the New People’s Army attacked the soldiers and government militiamen near a populated area in Brgy. Barakatan, Toril District, Davao City at 12 p.m.
“The ambush shows the treachery and utter disregard of the NPA to human lives particularly to civilians who might have been hit by bullets coming from them as there were houses about a few hundred meters away,” Garcia said.
Two civilians were killed in two separate attacks by rebels in December 2009 and February this year in Boston, Davao Oriental, the military official
