THREE men who tried to rob an establishment in Quezon City were killed by policemen in a shootout Friday evening. PO3 Erickson Isidro said the still unidentified suspects were positively identified by PJ Gumapal, 31, an employee of Keno and Bayad Center, as the same persons who robbed him around 11:30 p.m. Friday. The three suspects were gunned down on Katipunan Extension by responding members of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit. Recovered from the slain suspects were two money boxes containing P5,200 in cash that were forcibly taken from Gumapal and three .38 caliber revolvers they used in the shootout. Gumapal said he was about to close down the outlet in front of the Quirino gate of the University of the Philippines on Katipunan Extension in Barangay Pansol when the three suspects suddenly barged in and at gunpoint announced the heist. After the suspects took the loot, Gumapal shouted for help which caught the attention of patrolling policemen led by Insp. Danilo Malab. The police officers scoured the possible escape routes of the suspects on Katipunan Extension and were able to spot three suspicious-looking men walking. When the suspects saw the policemen approaching in a mobile car, they pulled out their guns and fired shots. The policemen were forced to retaliate and killed the three suspects.
