MANILA, Philippines – Police operatives killed 3 suspected armed robbers in a predawn shootout in Cainta, Rizal on Saturday.
Police said the 3 still unidentified suspects were members of the notorious Waray-Waray robbery group and were about to strike in the province when operatives caught up with them around 3 a.m. in Cainta town.
The Highway Patrol Group (HPG) said its operatives received a tip from an informant late Friday night that members of the notorious gang will hit a fish delivery truck carrying more or less P1 million in collections from Antipolo City.
The HPG said the suspects were on board a stolen Nissan Urvan (RZJ 178) and were already tailing the fish delivery truck when they were spotted in Ortigas area around 2 a.m..
The HPG said that the group tried to shake off the operatives after sensing that they were being followed and tried to run to Cainta.
It said that Limbas operatives joined by Cainta policemen chased the suspects and caught up with them along ROTC-Hunters Avenue in Barangay San Juan.
The hot pursuit operation turned into a shootout after the suspects allegedly fired at the operatives.
