MANILA, Philippines – 3 brothers were accused by federal prosecutors in Brooklyn Friday of a conspiracy to sell high-powered guns to Philippine buyers.

According to the Washington Post, prosecutors alleged that Officer Rex-Gene Maralit and his brother Wilfredo conspired with their brother Arial in the Philippines to find customers to sell guns to. Arial would get emailed gun orders, which the older brothers then fulfilled.

In court papers, prosecutors said the older brothers “scoured the Internet for gun dealers and parts suppliers, and used their law enforcement credentials to obtain weapons.” They then shipped the guns and parts using fake content labels. In one instance, some of the parts were labeled as an “industrial sliding door track.”

Rex-Gene Maralit, 44, works at the NYPD headquarters in Manhattan, while his brother Wilfredo, 48, is a Customs and Borders Protection officer at the Los Angeles International Airport.

Rex-Gene and Wilfredo were arrested Thursday, while Arial Maralit, 43, was believed to be at large in the Philippines. – Rappler.com
