BATANGAS, Philippines – A barangay chairman and a councilman were wounded after one of their constituents shot them Saturday morning in Lipa City.

Superintendent Arcadio Ronquillo, Batangas Police Public Information Officer, identified the victims as Chairman Almario Baroja and councilman Adelio Calalo of Barangay Tibig in Lipa City.

Police are now hunting down the suspect identified as Celso Baroja who escaped after the incident.

Ronquillo said Chairman Baroja and Calalo were onboard the barangay mobile patrol and were driving along the highway in Barangay Tibig when the suspect blocked their path with a tricycle around 8:30 a.m. and fired at them.

The police officer said that the gunman aimed and fired his gun at Calalo first but Chairman Baroja covered councilman him with his arm.

A bullet pierced through Baroja’s arm and then through the right upper chest of Calalo.

Bystanders rushed Calalo to the Mary Mediatrix Hospital while chairman Baroja was brought to the Lipa Medix for treatment.

Initial investigation disclosed that love triangle is the primary motive in the shooting. Police are still investigating other angles.
