Two suspected members of a notorious robbery gang were shot dead following an encounter with police in Manila’s Tondo district Sunday night.
Radio dzBB reported early Monday that the two engaged policemen in a chase and shootout after they robbed a lechon manok stall.
“Ito minsan mga riding in tandem at ito ang grupong Waray-Waray. Sa Honorio Lopez Highway sumasampa sa jeep at humoholdap ang dalawang ito (We suspect these are members of the Waray-Waray Gang, which has been linked to robberies involving men riding motorcycles. They are also linked to jeep holdups along Honorio Lopez Highway),” Manila Police District Station 1 head Superintendent Ernesto Tendero said.
He did not immediately identify the two slain suspects, who were declared dead on arrival at the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center.
An initial investigation showed the suspects robbed a Baliwag Lechon Manok outlet near the corner of Juan Luna Street and Honorio Lopez Highway at about 6 p.m. Sunday.
They fled when they saw police rushing to the site, and allegedly tried to fire at the policemen when they reached Road 10. — RSJ, GMANews.TV
