Two suspected robbers were killed while a third was wounded in a predawn encounter with police in Laguna province Wednesday.
Police said the three tried to shoot their way out of a dragnet operation in San Pedro town in Laguna, radio dzBB reported.
San Pedro police head Superintendent Chito Bersaluna was quoted in the report as saying the incident occurred at 2:30 a.m. at New Year Avenue in Barangay GSIS.
The suspects were not immediately identified.
Initial investigation showed the three had just robbed one Al Geronimo and took off with his mobile phone and motorcycle.
Geronimo reported the incident to police, who set up a dragnet operation.
Police tried to flag down the suspects at a checkpoint at New Year Avenue, but the suspects allegedly shot it out with them, prompting them to fire back. — ELR, GMA News
