ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Authorities have tightened security after two supporters of a mayoral aspirant in Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur were killed and another one was wounded in an ambush last Friday.
The two followers of mayoral bet Wilson Nadang were attacked by two motorcycle-riding men with M-16 rifles in Purok Gin-awa, Barangay Tawagan Norte, police said.
The attack came three days after armed men flagged down a truck bearing a group supposed to conduct voters’ education.
The armed men killed the truck driver, torched the vehicle and drove it into a ravine.
Lt. Gen. Ben Dolorfino, Armed Forces’ Western Mindanao Command chief, said at least nine areas in the region are under close watch.
