COTABATO, Philippines (Xinhua) – Two soldiers were injured in an attack staged by leftist rebels yesterday in restive Mindanao, an army officer said today. Troops under the 57th Infantry Battalion’s Bravo Company were conducting security patrol in the township of Magpet in North Cotabato province when a landmine planted by the New People’s Army (NPA) exploded at 1:15 p.m. (local time) near Binay village, said Nasrullah Sema, chief of the civil military operations of the 57th Infantry Battalion. The blast hit the military truck and injured two soldiers. They are now out of danger. The military has launched a pursuit operation against the attackers, he said.
