MANILA, Philippines – Unidentified assailants shot dead 2 men in Ilocos Norte province on Thursday, police said.
The victims were identified as 32-year-old rice trader Rodel Curameng and 25-year-old construction worker Gilbert Asuncion.
The incident occurred in Barangay Laureta, Solsona town.
The 2 men were attacked while they were on their way home after gambling at a wake, according to police.
The authorities believe that robbery was the motive for the crime because the P500,000 in cash that the victims were carrying allegedly went missing.
The families of Curameng and Asuncion urged the authorities to bring the killers to justice.
The incident was the first gun-related violence recorded in the town since the election gun ban was enforced last month, police said. – Hadji Rieta, ABS-CBN News Ilocos
