MANILA, Philippines—A security guard discovered early Sunday the bodies of two men believed to be victims of summary execution.

Hardy Gomez, of the DND security agency, was standing guard at 4 a.m. outside a shop along Figueroa Street in Paco district, when he heard successive gunshots near his station.

When he ran in the direction of the shots at the corner of Lantin and Figueroa Streets, he found the bloodied bodies of two men, whose faces were plastered with packaging tape and whose hands were tied behind their backs.

He immediately sought help from village watchmen of Barangay 682 Zone 74, who called for police assistance.

Police Officer 2 Jupiter Tajonera, of the Manila Police District (MPD) homicide section, described one of the dead men to be between 20 and 25 years old, five-foot-six-inch tall, of medium build, fair-skinned, and clad in a brown t-shirt worn over blue short pants. The other was between 19 and 24 years old, five-foot-eight-inch tall, of medium build, fair-skinned and clad in a white t-shirt as well as a blue sports jacket worn over black short pants.

Tajonera said that both men were barefoot. While packaging tape had been wound around their heads, a black belt had been used to bind the first body’s hands behind his back. The second victim’s hands were bound by plastic straw.

The case investigator observed that both men bore multiple bullet wounds in the head and body and confirmed that they were killed in the same site where they were dumped.

Scene of the Crime Office (SOCO) personnel recovered several spent shells from a .9mm-cal. pistol strewn around the bodies, which lay near each other.

Both bodies were taken to the St. Patrick funeral parlor for autopsy and safekeeping. Homicide section investigators were conducting followup operations to determine the victims’ identities and the motive behind the killing.
