MANILA, Philippines—The two leaders of Ozamis crime group who were recaptured last weekend and were set to be turned over to the Department of Justice-Bureau of Corrections were reportedly killed in an ambush Monday evening, police said.

Chief Superintendent Benito Estipona, Calabarzon regional director, identified the killed convicts as Ricky “Kambal” Cadavero, 36, and his trusted lieutenant, Wilfredo “Kulot” Panogalinga Jr.—both escapees and leaders of the organized crime group.

They were ambushed in San Pedro, Laguna, around 5:45 p.m. while they were on their way back to the police camp from an inquest proceeding.
