Two law students of the University of the Philippines (UP) were mauled by a group of young men inside a restaurant in Quezon City last Thursday night.
Investigator SPO2 Artemio Caducio identified the two victims as UP law students Eric Pasion, 25, a resident of Parañaque City, and Francis Asilo, 24, of Las Piñas City.
Caducio said that the two law students were hurt after being beaten up with steel pipes during the mauling incident that allegedly took place at 6:35 p.m. inside the Shakey’s restaurant along Katipunan Avenue in Loyola Heights.
He said the steel pipes were left behind inside the restaurant. Three steel pipes each measured 16 inches long and an inch in diameter.
The two students were treated at the Quirino Memorial Medical Center.
As claimed by the victims, Caducio said that there were four young men who beat them up and were described as either college students or fresh graduates.
The investigator said the two victims claimed that they don’t know who the suspects were and why they were beaten up.
The victims told police that they were six other law classmates and their professor, lawyer Glenda Litong, and were reviewing inside the restaurant.
Pasion and Asilo recounted that they were surprised when the suspects appeared and then dragged them out of their seats to be beaten up. The suspects quickly left the restaurant and fled aboard a car.
Caducio said the suspects managed to get inside the restaurant armed with the pipes since the guards were manning the perimeter of the restaurant, not the front door.
