2 killed at wake in Quezon City

AN ARMED MAN was shot dead after he became unruly at a wake and was stopped by responding policemen on Sunday in Quezon City. Another man was killed while a bystander was wounded. The two fatalities were identified as Roberto Matamis, 35; and Carlos Sison, 50. Melvin Campued, 46, was injured after he was hit by a stray bullet. One of the policemen who killed the two men surrendered to authorities and was identified as PO1 Jupiter Duruin. Case investigator PO2 Loreto Tigno of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said the shooting happened at a wake in Barangay Escopa 3 before dawn on Sunday. Matamis was reportedly seen at the wake carrying a baby Armalite, scaring some of the neighbors and mourners. Desk officer SPO4 Ventura Ferreras Jr. of the Cubao police station quickly dispatched policemen to the area. A shoot-out ensued, leaving the victims dead. Julie M. Aurelio
