Violence flared up anew in Mampang and Talon-Talon with an army soldier and a woman dead and two others wounded in two separate gun attacks on Friday.
The fatalities were identified as PFC Backri Jainuddin, a member of the Task Force Zamboanga and Tamoy Tiambi. Wounded were Jainuddin’s wife Nurmina and Jun-Jun Alih, 40, a pedicab driver.
A police report disclosed that the couple and Tiambi were inside their house at Faustino Drive, Mampang around 7 p.m. when a gunman wearing black bonnet broke in and sprayed them with bullets.
Tiambi died on the spot with multiple bullet wounds in the body while Backri expired while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Nurmina was taken to a hospital for treated of gunshot wounds in the body.
The gunman hastily left the place after the gun attack.
Two hours earlier, Alih was shot and wounded by an unidentified man while he was taking his meal at the store of Remedios Micubo along the sidewalk at Logoy Grande, Talon-Talon.
Alih sustained a bullet wound in the right cheek and was taken to the Zamboanga City Medical Center for treatment.
City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin Deocampo disclosed that he has dispatched his men to establish the identities of the gunmen in the two shooting incidents.
Investigators were still checking if Friday’s incidents have connection with the unsolved feud between two groups that had earlier triggered several fatal gun slayings in the past months.
The police, the city government and some non-government organizations (NGOs) are exerting efforts and finding avenues to end the feud which was said to have started by a mere competition among jeepneys from Mampang and Talon-Talon.
