A burst of gunfire concluded a community dance at a remote barangay of Sagrada Familia in Dumarao, Capiz.
After the fire went off, two persons were killed and four others were wounded.
Police identified the victims as Arturo Bandada and Rex Justalero, both residents of Dumarao town.
Bandada, a member of the Civilian Volunteer Organization, suffered gunshot and stab injuries.
Police accounts claimed that at 2:30 a.m. of Sunday, a commotion occurred outside the mini-gym, which also served as a dance hall, at Brgy. Sagrada Familia.
Witnesses claimed that the incident was so sudden that they did not know who fired first.
Reports said that a misunderstanding occurred between Justalero brothers and the group of a certain Lee Lorca.
According to Justalero’s cousin, Rex was inside the mini-gym when a heated altercation ensued between Lorca and Rex’s elder brother.
Bandada, being a CVO member, tried to pacify the fight.
Her 17-year old daughter claimed that they, in fact, were on their way home before the commotion.
Shortly later, burst of gunfire was heard all over the area.
Aside form the two fatalities, also wounded were Rex’s brother, 32-year old Roy and 25-year old Rommel; and Bandada’s son, 28-year old Charlie and Lee Lorca.
The wounded Justalero brothers were referred to a hospital in Iloilo City while Charlie was brought to San Rafael hospital.
Lorca, on the other hand, was rushed to a hospital in Roxas City.
Meanwhile, Dumarao Police Station commander Senior Insp. Acosta said that they are already conducting in-depth investigation on the incident.
He also assured that they would be more strict in the implementation of the COMELEC total gun ban.
