Sunday afternoon.

Nueva Ecija police director Senior Supt. Crizaldo O. Nieves said the fatalities still remained unidentified as of press time yesterday.

The suspects were riding tandem on a motorcycle without license plate when they did not stop after being flagged down at a police checkpoint on the Nueva Ecija-Aurora Road in Bgy. Pangatian at around 5:45 p.m.

Nieves said elements of the Provincial Public Safety Company under Supt. Ricardo E. Villanueva manning the checkpoint were forced to retaliate and conduct pursuit operations after they were fired upon by the fleeing suspects, who were subsequently killed during the gunbattle.

Villanueva said community police stations in Bgys. Cabu and San Isidro were also immediately alerted to establish roadblocks for possible apprehension of the suspects’ other cohorts.

Recovered from the suspects were a cal. .45 pistol with magazine and bullets, a cal. 357 revolver with fired cartridges, sketches of possible targets and a mobile phone.

Also found at the scene were several empty shells for cals. 5.56 and 9mm.

“Nakuha sa bulsa ng suspek ang mga sketches ng bahay, tirahan at description ng service vehicle pick-up ni Engr. Eleazar Padilla Jr. sa Cecilia Village 1, Cabanatuan City. Ito ang possible target victim na bibirahin ng mga suspek,” Villanueva told People’s Tonight in a text message.
