POLICE arrested two fishermen, who were accused of killing a couple in barangay Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City on Wednesday.
Police said Allan Aca, 31, and Ricky Cabansay Tabera, 24, who hail from Bohol, allegedly admitted killing Eduardo Toreon and Grecilda Toreon.
Aca temporarily lived in barangay Ilaya, Cordova town. Tabera is from sitio Datag, barangay Maribago, Lapu-lapu City.
Murder charges will be filed today against the two men before the Lapu-Lapu City Prosecutor’s Office.
Insp. Juan Capacio, Lapu-Lapu Police Office (LLCPO) homicide section chief, said that with the arrest of the suspects, the case is considered solved.
Investigators initially believed that robbery was the motive of the attack. But Aca admitted that he bore grudges against Grecilda, a quack doctor, whom he blamed for the death of his cousin in Bohol, said police.
Aca said Grecilda was their only target but they were forced to shoot Eduardo when he intervened.
Grecilda was tending to their store around 2 p.m. when she was shot.
Aca and Tabera were arrested several hours after the incident with the help of taxi driver, Efren Saison, whose vehicle was used by the suspect in escaping.
Saison was apprehended by police in barangay Maribago where he brought the two suspects.
He, however, denied that he was a cohort of the two suspects.
Saison led policemen to sitio Dayag in Maribago where the two suspects were located.
Police said follow-up investigation will be conducted to determine if there are other persons involved in the killing of the couple./CORRESPONDENT JUCELL MARIE P. CUYOS
