A TRISIKAD driver has accused two alleged members of the Police Maritime Group for mauling him over the weekend in Barangay Bonbon, this city.

Quirino Hampak, the trisikad driver, said he failed to identify the two suspects but surmised they are members of the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Maritime Group because they were with PO3 Raul Rara, the alleged care taker of the PNP-Maritime sub-station in Barangay Bonbon.

According to Hampak, the two suspects were with Rara having a drinking session in a store. He said he was in the same store to drink water when accosted by one of the two suspects for allegedly showing a “sourly stare.”

He further alleged that the other suspect slapped him on the face with no apparent reason.

“One of the men pointed a gun at me and hit me with the same gun,” the victim said.

Hampak believed the two persons who mauled him, who were in civilian clothes, were members of the PNP Maritime Group “because they possessed a firearm.”

In a meeting inside the PNP-Maritime sub-station after the incident, Rara vehemently denied the accusation when confronted by Superintendent Cupid Calica, regional director of the PNP-Maritime Regional Group.

Rara denied knowing the two suspects but did not give further statement whether or not he was with the group during the incident.

“I did not know them because they were not my visitors. I even confronted them not to do it but they did not listen to me,” Rara told RMN-dxCC in an interview Monday.

Calica said he would conduct an in-depth investigation on the incident to identify the two suspects.

He assured there would be no cover up in the investigation and will not tolerate his men of any wrongdoing.(Annabelle L. Ricalde)
